Golden Leaf Bodhi is a kinetic mechanical art installation designed for the entrance of Taikang Life Journey Hall. It adopts the shape of Bodhi leaves to echo the theme of “tree” in the journey hall, letting 188 pieces of golden leaves moving with music to form various matrix shapes. “Leaf” is pronounced the same as “business” in Chinese, meaning peace, contentment and happiness. In Chinese culture, people also like to wear leaves as ornaments, meaning perfect couple and aristocrat. Therefore, this installation is not only a pleasing “beauty”, but also a “geomantic treasure” full of auspicious sign. Buddhism says, “To see a World in a Wild Flower, and a Bodhi in a Leaf.” Although it says that a sentient being is small compared with the Great Universe, his/her hidden Buddha-nature is supreme and covers all the wisdom in the Great Universe. The West also has a verse with meaning, from the English poet William Blake: “To see a World in a Grain of Sand and a Heaven in a Wild Flower.” Therefore, the art installation shows not only the beautiful meaning and theme, but also the common thinking of Eastern and Western philosophy. Its artistic conception is far away, so that the audience can meditate in the aftertaste and feel the power of nature.
